There is a Trojan horse virus (Y2Kcount.exe) in circulation claiming to be a Year 2000 countdown timer provided by Microsoft. This Trojan horse is distributed via email.
This email was not sent by Microsoft and the attachment that is being distributed is not a Y2K countdown program, but instead a Trojan virus.
Please note: Microsoft does not distribute software via email.
If you receive an e-mail that claims to contain software from Microsoft, do not run the attachment. The safest course of action is to delete the mail altogether.
If users attempt to open the alleged program, the virus can install itself onto the user's computer and then is capable of sending data and information from that system across the Internet.
