I'm in Hyattsville, MD now. In 1969 I spent three weeks in Carlisle at the Redskins' training camp (not as a player, thank you). 1969 was Lombardi's year, and he instantly gave them their first winning season in 15 years. A very great man, I think. Easily the greatest who ever knew me by name.
Some people are put off by that "Winning isn't everything--it's the only thing" quote, but come on. That's coach talk.
(Besides, he was sharp enough to know that it doesn't make any sense; if winning is the only thing, then it IS everything.)
The Cowboys? Utterly detestable, but I did respect Mr. Landry.
