I have done a little research(not too much yet)and haven't come up with an answer to the question I've been working on. I figured that maybe someone here might have the answer for me. If no one does, I'll have to do a lot of research!!! Anyway, here's what I've been working on:
Why is the Staten Island Expressway considered Interstate 278? I always believed that to be a part of the Interstate system the road in question had to cross a state line. In all of the maps I have seen I-278 runs around in N.Y.S. only, so how did it become part of the interstate system?
Was a special dispensation given to NY? Did it at one time cross a state line? NJ? CT? Any help or comments are greatly appreciated!
