4 retailers to settle 'sweatshop' suit.
Retailers that settled a federal class-action lawsuit alleging sweatshop abuses by contractors on the U.S. territory of Saipan are Cutter & Buck Inc., Gymboree Corp., J. Crew Group Inc. and Nordstrom Inc. The remaining defendants in the lawsuit are:
The Associated Merchandising Corp.
The Gap Inc
J.C. Penney Co. Inc.
Jones Apparel Group
The Limited Inc.
Lane Bryant Inc.
The May Department Stores Co.
Osh Kosh B'Gosh Inc.
Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Tommy Hilfiger USA Inc.
Footnote: If you go to the clothing rack warehouses in Pusan, Korea, you will find rows of unlabeled clothes you can buy. You may also meet buyers from many U.S. Department stores. They, like you will pick out the merchandise they like, have their label put on them and shipped to the U.S. You may walk around the corner to a "label" shop and purchase any label you want and have it put on your purchase. So when shopping at the mall, the only real difference you may see between the clothes is the label, and therefore the price.
