You're right about that German teacher being earnest. "Ernst", by the way, means serious in German. I'll give the Germans credit for one thing, when they decide to undertake something, they go for broke.
It's too bad there isn't now such an educational program in place in Yugoslavia, and I doubt there ever will be. The Serbs still believe that their cause was just and the NATO was the aggressor. And of course, the UCK Albanians are not only bent on revenge, they are jockeying to make Kosovo a separate nation...just what the world needs, another Balkan country!
Tito kept a lid on things by matching violence with violence, but if he would've have started a forced education program the way the Germans did after WWII, maybe the Balkans would be peaceful today.
