If they was over the wake we could have had a corsair call the ball and scare the hell out of both of them. In the jet age we had much smarter sailors. A "brown shirt" got his "Dear John", went ad put his coverall's on, filled all the pockets with tools and and jumped from the stbd catwalk. for someone who had survived the dangers of the flight deck and end their life over a letter is strange. The guy's command tried to place the blame on someone who was his supervisor.
I think the guy's supervisor wanted to jump after a few days
also. If only the guy had gotten the letter in port where he could have let off a little steam, gotten a tattoo or something.
