Old Navy trick used during the last few days of the month.
find the account number, usually at the bottom of the check.
Then take a hat pin and put a small hole in one of the numbers. When the check is optically scanned to read the account number at the bank or clearing house light leaks thru the hole. This causes the check to be rejected for automated processing and has to be handeled manually. This usually takes 2-3 days and give you time to get the pay check deposited. This is not recommended but back when I was making $78 a month in came in handy a time or two. Being a sailor all my hobbies were expensive.
