The hot weather on the east coast must've melted the firewall that's been blocking my access to this site!
Anyhow, my childhood memories of cool relief always bring back the image of the blue Carrier curtains hanging from the movie marquees. They were a dark royal blue edged with gold fringe and said "C'mon in, it's cool inside". Whether the St. George, the Ritz or the Paramount...that was the place to go on a hot Saturday afternoon.
The smaller theaters didn't have air conditioning, so we would pay the extra 15cents admission and have to take a bus...deserting the local theaters: the Capitol, the Rex, the Star, etc. Don't know about the Lane...did it have air conditioning in the beginning?
