As pointed out earlier, you will find that the death certificate is on file at the Bureau of Vital Statistics.
You may find dealing with them somewhat exasperating, however (with lots of recorded messages and frustrating delays). An alternative would be to contact the funeral home that handled the final arrangements (if you can recall the name of the firm). In the past, I have found that most of these firms retained a copy of the death certificate in their records, and that they not only were a lot faster in complying with a request for such information, but much easier to deal with.
