Frank McCourt recently gave the commencement address at Connecticut College (also on c-span) and spoke about his years at McKee. He said he started at McKee his first year out of NYU. He spoke of how he really didn't know how to teach at that point and how difficult it was to teach at a vocational school where the last thing the students were interested in was english class. He said that it was at McKee that he learned his most important lesson on teaching, getting and keeping his students attention. He had nothing disparaging to say about McKee, in fact, his speech seemed to indicate that his years at McKee were instrumental in making him a good teacher.
