Interesting article - something that my mother knew instinctively. She read voraciously and when she was pregnant with me, was into verse. Someone had given her the complete works of Elizabeth Barret Browning and she read them out loud. Swears this is why I love literature.
When I had my own daughter, my mom taught me to talk to her even though she couldn't understand. She told me to make conversation with her during my daily routine; so I did. Whenever I read the paper, I read it out loud. When I sat on the front porch and did this, my neighbors thought I was nuts. My daughter is a pre-teen now, and I can't shut her up!
