I don't have the second amendment handy, and I'm afraid I never memorized it, but doesn't it go even BEYOND telling us that the right to keep and bear arms is necessary in order to have a militia? Doesn't it in fact go so far as to say that we need a militia in order to protect the STATE? I'm pretty sure it says nothing about letting us bear arms to protect ourselves AGAINST the state. I've always considered that idea not only a slander against the founding fathers but a willful perversion of common sense.
