Staten Island History:
Inn keeping helped the travelling public which used the stages traversing Kings Highway (Richmond Road) and the Richmond Turnpike (Victory Boulevard) main routes from New York to Philadelphia. Mills, general stores, harness making, and other occupations reflected the leisurely reural and village life in 18th & 19th century Staten Island.
