The best way I know of to gain strength is by using basic exercises at moderate heavy weights. Try squats, deadlifts, bent over rows, overhead presses and bench presses.
For explosive strength do power cleans, high pulls, light squats paused at the bottom and leg presses.
Running and punching a heavy bag are great ways to develop speed and stay loose.
Like everyone else wrote, diet is very important, eat lots of carbs and protein and don't waste your money on those bulk up powders.
