Is Your Email Private George Jaenicke grjaenicke jaenicke@bellatlantic.net

I recently read a repot that the FBI is currently developing and using a program named Carnivore. This program allows them when connected to an ISP, to monitor and save all email that moves across their servers.

The FBI claims that it is perfectly legal to do this. This program is supposed to be able to be set to scan mail for certain key words and phrases. I don’t know the legality of this but I know that I do not like that fact that they think they have the right to monitor anyone’s email without a specific court order.

It has supposedly raised quite a stir in Congress by members of both parties, so I’m sure this battle has just begun. It will be interesting to see how this finally shakes out.
