What D. BILIVIT didn't notice was that BarNACLe Bill was in the Pilot House facing the St. George terminal and was not actually driving. When the Mary Maury would dock and the passengers would debark he would stand at the gangway looking into the crowd of oncoming passengers. His objective was to search for young maidens who didn't want to sit in the smoking section of the first deck but also wanted to be safe from the south shore wolves who rode the SIRT and the ferry. His mission was to invite them to sit in the pilot house facing the wrong way, among other things. BarNACLe Bill didn't use RADAR anyway when he was navigussing. The shoe shine guy had saved up a very big ball of old shoe laces tied together they were attached to a large real on the SI end of the boat with the other end attached to the end of the dock. The string would automatically be feed out by the pulley during the trip to Manhattan, and then reeled in by an assistant on the way back. The assistant would call out the relative bearing that the string was tending from and BarNACLe Bill would steer to meet the bow of the boat with the string. The assistant mate and pulley operation was conducted under the windows of the pilot house and out of sight of Coast Guard or Department of Marine and Aviation inspectors. Why was D. BLIVIT there in the first place? It was not about RADAR ring times or VSWR ratios or even the big question about the difference between statute and RADAR miles. It was about when the royal party, Queen, Queen Mother, and all the ladies in waiting (groupies). They all wanted to ride in the pilot house with BarNACLe Bill. Having his hands full (LOL) BarNACLe Bill actually was trying to show a shipmate the advantages of the setup he had, and let him assist in providing a good time to the visitors to the Pilot House. Well as the Mary Maury passes Governor's Island Captain BarNACLe Bill is escorting his stunning guest to the main deck for the docking. D. BLIVIT the range strobe is blinking at the crossover points on the cursor for the Starboard SPA-8 can you come look at it......
