The Shot Heard 'Round the World Charles Schleininger corsair schleini@lemoorenet.com It was Ralph. I heard the home run on a transistor. Went to the corner hangout on Richmond road to tell my friends. I think I was the only Giant fan. The Dodger fans were saying "lucky". The Yankee fans were their IBM self. I remember Stankey against the Yankees in that World Series. Remember Dusty Baker? I was a freshman at New Dorp at the time. I remember seeing Willie in the old Polo Grounds, against the Phillies, went up against the left center field wall, another back to the infield catch, spun around, & threw the runner out, on a fly, as he touched up from third. Westrum was the catcher.

On Bobby Thompson Day the motorcade stopped at NDHS. We were let out, Bobby said a few words & moved on.
