Is it its', it's or its? Dan Blaine DBLIVIT blaine@eucom.mil Looking at my writings, I realize that I always use the apostrophe with the possessive pronoun "its". I always have written its'. In the dictionary it states that its' is never used anymore, that its is the correct usage, although in the past it's was also used as a possessive pronoun in addition to its(') more common usage as a contraction for it is or it has.

At some point during my elementary school education, the change was made to drop the '. However, by that time it was already imprinted on brain to use "its'.

Does anyone remember when this change took place?
