Blackberries Dan Blaine DBLIVIT firstname.lastname@example.org
Remember picking blackberries on SI? It seemed like almost every empty lot (in West New Brighton, anyhow) had bramble bushes that sprouted berries every summer. There were different varieties, of course, but we kids called them all "blackberries" no matter what color and flavor they were.
Among our favorite spots were the briar patches between the top of Pelton and Bard avenues...across from the back of Franzreb's stables.
We had an aunt that used to make jam out of them. Don't remember the process, but the finished product was always in a "jelly" glass sealed with wax.
BTW, as kids the only drinking glasses we ever used were jelly glasses, the "real" glasses were locked in the china cabinet and were only brought out when company came to dinner.
