From the obituary of Adam Buda, 88, in today's Advance:
He was the co-founder and co-owner of Buda Bakers, which opened in 1946 and was sold in 1974.
When it opened on Richmond Road at Lincoln Avenue, it was one of Staten Island's largest bakeries, packed with people -- especially on Sunday mornings after church services -- buying rolls, doughnuts and pastries. The bakery became a landmark there.
Mr. Buda continued to consult with the new owners, who kept the company name, until his retirement in 1980. The bakery, which opened at other Island locations, closed in the 1980s.
