But your mentioning of the movie theatre intermission diversions trigged a memory in my mind. My father's generation said they used to have amateur talent shows at the local theatres...they talked about the shows at the Liberty down in Stapleton. They used to say a favorite prank was to sit in the front row and be chewing on a big sour pickle (or a lemon) when a horn player was trying to do his gig. Supposedly the sight of someone chewing on a big dill would cause the horn player to (un?)pucker his lips so that he couldn't perform. Is there any truth to this? Or is it a myth?
