Dumb Tobacco Companies Charles Schleininger corsair schleini@lemoorenet.com The problem is only 28 cents goes to the companies. The rest is city/state/govt tax. The idea to raise the taxes is two fold: use the money to persuade people not to smoke; & increase revenues. The flip side is if people stop smoking the tax revenue will go down & all the government agencies that were receiving this money will have to look elsewhere. Meanwhile big tobacco will continue to have big profits by selling over seas. Also, as they found out in Canada the government will create a new black market.
