I ALMOST have some Staten Island family lore about the flu, but not quite. My father's first wife, along with his newborn daughter, died of the flu in 1918 in County Bronx. My mother was 17 at the time and living on Staten Island.
So I guess I would never have been born were it not for the flu epidemic of 1918.
The game of What-If can be pretty spooky sometimes. I told this story recently to a friend of mine in Colorado, and he replied that he's given up on the idea of trying to figure any probabilities because EVERYTHING is so intrinsically improbable.
