At Curtis I had a bad attitude problem and dropped out of the "academic" program after my freshman year and entered the "commercial" program...I wanted to just bide my time until I was old enough to quit school and get a job.
One of my teachers in the commercial program was Mrs. Helen Rowe.
Most of the teachers in that program realized they were teaching "losers" and just went through the motions. Mrs. Rowe, however, treated us as if we were all potential Rhodes scholars and never put us down. She greeted us all with a cheerful and "up" attitude every day.
Somehow between becoming a little more mature and Mrs. Rowe's attitude, I got motivated enough to get back into the academic program and eventually went on to college.
