There are turnstiles at the Saint George Ferry Terminal that take a token now costing $1.50. And I think there also is a turnstile at the Tompkinsville stop. You always pay at these stops no matter what time of day it is.
During the morning rush traveling towards Saint George no one collects the fare on the train. If during the rush hour you board the train at any stop and exit before Tompkinsville you will have a free ride.
After rush hour and traveling towards Saint George you will be asked if you are going to the ferry terminal. If you answer no, your fare will be collected by the conductor.
During the evening rush traveling away from Saint George no one collects the fare on the train. If you board the train at any stop other than Saint George or Tompkinsville you have a free ride.
After rush hour and traveling away from Saint George boarding at any stop other than Saint George or Tompkinsville the conductor will collect the fare.
Again, I am not sure if there is a turnstile at Tompkinsville.
