How about Holland. The image of "The Potato Eaters" painted by Vincent Van Gogh comes to mind. This was his most favorite painting because it depicts the poor, hard working farm workers in the Netherlands. I didn't see if they were boiled or fired. Well, since potatoes come from the Americas and did not exist in Europe until after Columbus, it does not matter what country in Europe claims it as traditional food.
If we can find that the tradition was rampant in communities where Irish Immigrants settled that is one thing, but if the tradition was on Staten Island before the Irish potato famine, then the tradition is Dutch.
Anyone with specific details on this. It's clearly beyond my memory. LOL
