I'm confused about this. Hadn't heard about it, so I researched on the web. All I found was that the Statue of Liberty itself still has a New York postal address.
All I could find under New Jersey was Liberty State Park. That's a State Park on the Jersey shore where you can view the Statue, or catch a Circle Line boat to it, just like from Battery Park.
Since the entire island of Liberty Island (formerly Bedloe's Island) along with the Statue itself is a National Monument, doesn't that make it Federal Property. Federal property does not belong to any state. Often it may be within in a state, but did they say that.
Maybe all they said was that Jersey could offer it as a tourist attraction. Which they do, by offering boat sailings from Liberty State park.
