Right on, Patos!
I am a Viet Nam vet, but fortunately I do not wear my feelings on my sleeve. Maybe my scars aren't that deep or my expectations weren't that high. I volunteered to go there because I thought that is what I needed to do. As such, I neither hoped for, nor received a hero's accololades when I came home.
I'll admit it stung for a little while when I saw GI's being spat upon and called, "Baby Killers", but I was able to get on with my life. The Viet Nam War was a long time ago and I am a firm believer in the old adage that time heals all wounds. If it didn't, I'd be in intensive care right now, if not already dead.
I hope that my fellow comrades will someday find peace and can let bygones be bygones.
