Here's some postmodern gobbledygook. I just took a midnight ferry ride and got the John Noble, which is, for you folks who haven't been round these parts in a while, a pathetic, characterless mini-ferry. Took a pack of index cards and just started recording aural and visual impressions:
Midnight ferry prayer service, heads bow over Daily News missals
plastic pews abrasively orange.
Weary Workman Blues:
In the pose of a prisoner sprawled on a bunk
harmonica poised at his lips
LIFE PRESERVERS 43 ADULT
"No littering, please. No littering please, no littering, please" as he bows his head in the bow of the ship
"Some girl was broken up all over him and pickin' his pocket."
"A floating symbol of how little the city gives a #%*&"
ESCAPE HATCH DO NOT OBSTRUCT.
"Down to the end."
"She ain't no sweet fish."
Ferry of sorrow,
washing machine suds at the stern
or heroic ejaculate boiling
in the wake.
Some furtive Chairman Mao look-alike on the lower deck:
intoxicated head bent between
A saintly chino and bucks boy
reads war stories with
"talk talk talk, girl"
