I am told that you can never go home, again. The area has changed , the people are different and your old buddies are either gone to the great beyond, moved away or are conveniently out of touch. I find this to be true. the Staten Island that I knew in 1941 is not the Island of today. The people have changed from the great folks many of whom did not know they were poor and didn't care do newcomers who lack the long connection to the home we grew up in and the neighbors we cared about. It is sad, but it does happen. When I arrived in Houston it was a town of 250,000 Texans who cared for the town and its people. Now there are 3 million people, many illegal immigrants who could care less for the city or its people. So going home again is impossible.
Islander now Texan
