The trivia question--What was the longest home run ever hit in Baseball.
The answer--It was hit by Babe Ruth playing an exhibition game on a field adjacent to the Narrows. He hit a long fly ball that traveled on the fly to the crow's nest of a passenger liner leaving the harbor through the Narrows. It was not dislodged until the liner bumped the dock at Le Havre in France.
I cannot vouch for the veracity of this but I have heard it many times as a youth on the Island. Has anyone else heard this tale.
