I moved away from SI at 16. Maybe it was fear of not fitting in here in TX w/my Extreme NY accent, but I worked a whole summer to get rid of my accent before starting school.

I am sure I have a slight "Clampit" accent from here now, from living AMUNGST {G} the rednecks. ROFLOL

I do notice though, that when I visit NY or I talk with someone from there, I immediately revert back to my roots. I think that it is ingrained in me, but I know that I have full control over how I sound when I speak.

I would guess that would explain why I am rather good at talking with an Australian, British, or even Irish accent :)
