S.I. 14 N.Y. used to be (and still is?) the largest postal zone on SI. The old post office was a small brick building across the street from where Mountainview Ave met Victory Blvd. Even though SI 14 was big, there were few people there. The Travis mailman actually used to take the 112 to Travis and would sit in the back of the bus and read everybody's magazines during the ride! After the new PO was built on Manor Rd, I believe the old PO eventually became a tool and equipment rental store. Next to the old PO on the corner of Victory and Westcott Blvds was a market (Grand Union?) that closed when the FINAST (First National Store) opened nearby along Victory closer to Meiers Corners. The old market was refurbished and became the Todt Hill-Westerleigh branch of the NY Public Library.
