The Cub/Scoutmaster of Pack #41 and Troop #41 was Mr. Robert Bradley Sr.
The Pack and Troop got their numbers from his street address (41 Dent
RD. in Great Kills). Bob Bradley had been a U.D.T. Underwater
Demolitions Team (Navy Frogman) during WW II. He participated in the
softening up of the Normandy Beaches the day before the D-Day landings
on the 6th of June, 1945. He was spotted by a German machine gunner
while placing satchel charges to blow up beach obstacles and shot. He
carried seven bullet wound scars that ran from his left shoulder to his
right hip, front and back. While they smashed some of his ribs, non of
his major organs or blood vessels were hit. He was extracted from the
area by his U.D.T. Team mates and evacuated by P.T. Boat to England
where he recovered in hospital. When I knew him he worked as a civilian
at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the Sail Loft. He was a great man and
will be missed by a lot of "Boys" that knew and loved him.
