I've just gotten a call from a Staten Island Picnic-Florida committee member that the annual "STATEN ISLAND'ERS PICNIC IN FLORIDA" is officially going to be a happening.
Date: Thursday March 12,1998
Time: From 8am to dark (most Staten Islander's start arriving around 9am & stay & stay & stay- WOW!!! what a party group)
Place: TY Park, 3300 North Park Road, Hollywood, Florida (954)985-1980
RSVP: just click on my e-mail and send my your name,address,phone etc. so the committee can mail you a post card announcement. Please indicate if you would like to join the committee to get the word out to other Staten Islanders in Florida
WHY A "THURSDAY" YOU ASK: Well I questioned that too and was told that the annual picnic event was originally started by a group of retirees that had settled in Florida and TY Park (they normally charged) donated the use of the Park for the day. The picnic has always been held on the 2nd Thursday in March and in view of the "missing mailing list occurance" the current committee though it best to stick with tradition especially that so many Staten Island'ers automatically just arrive that day knowing it's an annual event. The GOOD NEWS is that the picnic committee had joined forces with the Staten Island Luncheon commttee who offered their mailing list so there is a pretty good sized mailing that will go out this coming weekend. The SIP committee was determined that the tradition of reuniting with old frieds & making new must go on and they have put extreme effort this year to put together this FUN DAY. Soooooo we'll live with it being a Thursday keeping with tradition (at least for now)
C "U" there...Sooooo what if it's a Thursday, Staten Islanders know how to make a longgggggggggg weekend happen or just get take the day off :)
