SubTitle: Hamburgers and Dogs

Do you know when I first came to California I could not believe the way they sold both of these items? On Staten Island in the good old days hamburgers came with only onions and catsup, Hot dogs had a choice of with or without sourkraut and mustard and onions and that was it. When I got to the west coast they had hamburgers with lettuce and mayonaise. This seemed unbelievable in those times. Hot dogs had a choice of chili. Now in the forties no one on the East Coast made chili. When I tried to buy tortillas I found some in a can in the fifties when I moved back there. We bought a house in Iselin, New Jersey in 49 and lived there till 60 and then to Virginia Beach area where John retired from the navy and we returned to California. Marcene
