Does anyone remember this group of womrn who did their darndest to helf the navy men who were away from home or in the Navy Hospitals in the coure of the War? They even had a ship held in port to hold a dance at Pier 6 at one time. They gave wedding showers and baby layettes etc. to the wives etc. My mother traveled all over the country as an organizer of thre different chapters. My brother Bob, was at Pearl Harbor and this was her motivation. They often laughingly called her the loval recruiter since any local young fellow looking to join the navy oftem came our door asking for information. We lived on Sommers Lane at Four Corners at the time.
