Charlie asks where I pull this stuff up from, so yesterday I'm watching a school performance of "The Nutcracker" with lots of costumes, dancing, and music, and my 16-year-old, Rick, doing a creditable performance as the Host, when on comes "The Russian Dance." Right away my mind is watching "Kukla, Fran, and Ollie." That was their theme song, just like you can't hear the William Tell Overture without thinking "Lone Ranger." A musical Madeleine, as it were, with apologies to Frances and Marcel.

So, anyway, I wasn't the first kid on my block to have a tv. We'd usually go down to Dave & Len Blumin's down on Dongan Avenue to watch their 10" giant. Finally we got one, that Leo built out of a kit, of all things.

Now, at last, the question for you. What did you watch? And who did you fight with over which programs on at the same time? Remember, nobody had more than one tv in those days. They were black and white. And small, you had to crowd around.

Hell, this was so long ago they didn't have electricity. TV sets were run by steam.

So, "What time is it, gang?"

Let's hear it. -r-
