Any of you oldtimers recall the 1964 Power Outage that struck the Northeast? I made it to the Battery on a motor scooter and found the ferry terminal being powered electrically by one of the ferries, which allowed use of the ramp hoists, which in turn allowed access to the boats, which were warm and well lit. Leaving Manhattan for home was an experience. No one had ever seen Manhattan looking like a black hole before, not since the $24 sale to the Dutch by the Indians.
