One of the regulars was asking about the history of Fresh Kills and I was trying to give him a steer when I realized what's missing from this webpage. A few things, actually. No current residents of the Island; no scholars from any of the colleges or universities or historical societies; no historians, writers, sociologists, journalists, politicians, or anybody else who might have at least a passing interest in where SI came from and where it might be headed, and whether there's anything we're talking about that might have some relevance in this regard. I think it does. I think this represents an oral history of sorts, okay, a 'Net history that catches a mixed bag, but it's better than nothing, and without it, there's nothing, unless someone sets me straight and tells me there's an ongoing, active, history project studying what made SI unique, or at least what it is. Is there anything cooking on the Island? Where do I go to inquire, say on the 'Net. Wagner taught U.S. and American history, but not Island History. So did Curtis and PS29. I guess you had to go to the Historical Society and I never did. Too bad. When you're concentrating on one thing, you don't do something else. That's how it slips away. It shouldn't. Whaddaya think?
