The Initial posting did not come out as expected. Help may be on the way? The shipbuilding on Staten Island during WWII remembers a proud tradition in our nation. The ships were named to remember hero's of the Naval Service (Navy & Marines). Many of these remember those who lost their lives during the early part of WWII. The ships themselves were very well built and served well into the Vietnam era. Many have been sold to other nations and remained in service into the late 80's. Two ships of the class are memorialized, on in Fall River, Mass. and the other in Charleston, S. C. Additional information can be found in the following Books:
