I rode the train from Huguenot to St. George every day during the years 1961-1963. After my marraige in 1963 I lived in St. Geroge in the Ambassodor Apts. I continued to travel to NYC to work by ferry. The ferry ride was the most peaceful and also social part of commuting to work. The day JFK was assinated was most memorable . I was returning to work after lunch and a runner with a portable radio to his ear, passed me on the street and said the president was shot. I did not take seriously what he said. When I got back to my office [40 Rector St.] Muszak was annouching the news from Dallas. This was most unusual for Muszak as there never was any verbal communication. The rest of the day was listening to very somber music and once in a while an announcer giving an update of the president's condition. About 2:30 PM it was announced that he had died. Talking about the ferry, it was the most somber ride home to SI that I could ever remember. We, the passangers on the 5:10 were so quiet and in a state of shock that we were unable to even speak to our every day commuting friends. It was a long and sad weekend.
