No grass growing under your feet, Blaine. That was me who mentioned that and they were the first thing I thought of when I saw the above query. I don't know where they were placed strategically, but I assume the shipping lanes were mined as well as netted. Once outside the Hook, however, outbound shipping was being picked off by U-boats, I heard from my dad who worked at the shipyard and saw ships go out whole and come back torpedoed. I have a recollection of rusted steel netting that eventually disappeared. I was real small then.
