Y 7th and 8th grade english teacher lived in Tottenville and told my class that she saw the blimp on it's final trip to Lakehurst. She said that the Hindenburg traveled over SI on the final trip. It has also been told that German Sub's during WWI or WWII entered the bay and sent crews ashore on SI to hunt for provisions and other supplies! Any one else remember hearing about this? Or any other interesting stories about the island?
