J.R., you are s o o right! Security was such a big part of growing up on SI. I recall a friend from Tottenville graduating Wagner with me, and I asked him what he planned to do. Go on the cops was his reply. This puzzled me. Why go to college to go on the cops in those days. That was the minority view, to go to college first. "Security," was his response. Another college educated friend also went on the cops, since he was marrying his high school sweetheart and needed the security. I went the other direction, avoiding security as though it was the plague. Sometimes I feel as though I'm hanging way out over the edge, but I'd have gone nuts trading the risk of living for a presumably assured future. When I see all the layoffs in big companies, the military, and sometimes even government and the civil service, I've concluded that there are no guarantees in life, and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves. -rs-
