SubTitle: Ethnic Phrases

Although "melting pot" may seem old fashioned to some, I think it sums up our SI multi-cultural heritage. (In deference to those yuppies who want to appear "with it" we can call it a "Fondue Pot".) As mentioned in the question section the expressions I selected (remembered best) are not polite and could be construed as "slurs", but (as I said in one response) how many people do you know from Alabama or Ohio could answer the questions?
1. Doozy Pottsi-Italian: You're crazy in the head! Anyway that's what I've always thought it meant...if there's someone out there with a more exact translation, please post.
2&5. Pug mah Hone-Gaelic: Kiss my Tuchis! 5.Narrerbacker(narrowback) -Irish: a term used by native born Irishmen to describe those of Irish descent born in America.
4. Panya Doopah-Polish: Mr. Tuchis
5. Tuchis-Yiddish: as in "get off your Tuchis". I want to say here that in my opinion more Yiddish phrases are used in our SI(NY) dialect than any other culture's. So here's a few: (with apologies and I hope the blessings of Leo Rosten, author of the "Joys of Yiddish")
SHIKSA-as in the song: "Oy, Oy, Oy zeta beta toi, what have you done to my little Jewish boy? Sent him off to college to learn to read and write, now he's dating shiksas on Yom Kippur night!"
BALABOUSTA- "She's a real balabousta, all she does is stay home and kvetch about how much the huppah is gonna cost...and to a goy, no less !
NU? BUBEE, don't be such a schnook! If you don't want to post on this board, at least kibbitz a little already!
I sincerely hope I haven't offended anyone...it was not my intention..
