Went under the bridge a few times when it was being build on a reserve destroyer ot of the New York Naval Shipyard (Brooklyn), again after it was built on another DD. The final trip was aboard a Cruiser during the OPSAIL in '76. We Anchored 1,000 yards off St. George and could not get off the ship. Pulled into pier 40 at Houston St. about 2 AM after the Fireworks. My shipmates all wanted to go to Times Square. I told them all to go to 2nd Avenue and save thier money. Could not buy a drink for three days in uniform in NYC. The bridge looked it's best from St. George with the big sailing ships.
