Chris,
I'm really surprised no one has answered this yet. I remembered the name,
but I couldn't place it in my memory. So I left it for the folks whose
street locale recollections seem better than mine. Since no one has answered,
I looked it up (MapQuest). Why I remember it, is obvious to me now. As a teenager,
I lived in New Dorp, but my girlfriend was from Stapleton, so I spent
a lot of time there. Gordon Street runs through the west side of Stapleton.
It runs parallel to Targee St. One end just north of Fox Hills, the other end
just beyond Grove St. in the NW corner of the Stapleton Area.
Immaculate Conception RC church fronts on either Gordon or Targee.
(If it fronts on Targee, then the back is on Gordon). I can't
remember which ~ I should. Said girlfriend and I were married in that church
in 1960. But since we no longer are, I can't very well ask her.
