dan, i think the bridge resulted in a lot of unintended consequences like the making of the bedroom community. i live in maryland between d.c. and baltimore. around both cities they built beltways to carry travelers around the city. but many companies moved out to the suburbs and as a result the labor force didn't have to go downtown. now the beltways are jammed as are the roads taking you to the beltway. some surveys have indicated that the traffic here is worse than n.y.c. and they use to call this "the land of pleasant living".
