i watched the start of the bridge building, but moved away before the finish. i was on the island the week-end it opened and was riding around with my cousin when one of us got the bright idea to go over the bridge. we intended to go over, turn around and come back. getting on the bridge towards brooklyn was no problem, but halfway across we heard on the radio that the back-up on the brooklyn side stretched for miles and to avoid it if possible. so we had to drive over to the ferry and take that back.
